The Velvet Underground Sister Ray with Lyrics in Description

Track 6 from their second album “White Light/White Heat” released in 1968 copyright Verve Records. The band had toured most of the previous year in support of their debut album, but sales were poor. They fired Andy Warhol as their manager and cut ties with Nico, who had been a featured vocalist on the previous album. Their music was still experimental and alternative, and this album showed a more intense, aggressive sound, developed from their live performances. The album was recorded in two days. It sold a little over 100,000 copies in the U.S. Written by Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, John Cale & Maureen Tucker and produced by Tom Wilson. RIP Tom Wilson, Sterling Morrison & Lou Reed. Featuring:

Lou Reed – Lead vocals & lead & rhythm guitars
John Cale – Electric viola, organ, piano, bass, background vocals & sound effects. Lead vocals on “Lady Godiva’s Operation”
Sterling Morrison – Lead & rhythm guitars, bass, background vocals & sound effects
Maureen Tucker – Drums & percussion

Duck and Sally inside, they’re cookin’ for the down five
Who’re starin’ at Miss Rayon, who’s busy lickin’ up her pig pen
I’m searchin’ for my mainline, I said I couldn’t hit it sideways
I said I couldn’t hit it sideways, oh, just like Sister Ray said, “Live it on”

Rosy and Miss Rayon, they’re busy waitin’ for her booster
Who just got back from Carolina, she said she didn’t like the weather
They’re busy waitin’ for her sailor, who says he’s just as big as ever
He says he came from Alabama, he wants to know a way to earn a dollar
I’m searchin’ for my mainline, I said I couldn’t hit it sideways
I couldn’t hit it sideways, oh, just like Sister Ray said, “Play on”

Cecil’s got his new piece, he cocks and shoots in between three and four
He aims it at the sailor, shoots him down dead on the floor
Oh, you shouldn’t do that, don’t you know you’ll stain the carpet?
Now, don’t you know you’ll stain the carpet, and by the way, have you got a dollar?
Oh, no, man, I haven’t got the time, time
Too busy suckin’ on a ding-dong, she’s busy suckin’ on my ding-dong
Oh, she does just like Sister Ray said
I’m searchin’ for my mainline, I said c-c-couldn’t hit it sideways
I c-c-c-c-c-c-c-couldn’t hit it sideways
Oh I sure couldn’t, oh, just, just, just like Sister Ray said, “Go on”

Now, who is that knockin’, who’s knockin’ at my chamber door?
Now, could it be the police, they come to take me for a ride, ride?
Oh, but I haven’t got the time, time, hey, hey, hey she’s busy suckin’ on my ding-dong
She’s busy suckin’ on my ding-dong, oh, now, just as I heard Sister Ray said
I’m searchin for my mainline, I couldn’t hit it sideways
I couldn’t hit it sideways, oh, now just like, oh, just like
Oh, just like, oh, just like, oh, just like, oh, just like man

Doc and Sally inside, now move it along, cookin’ for the down five
Who’re starin’ at Miss Rayon, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, lickin’ up pig pen
I been s-s-s-s-searchin’ for my mainline, I couldn’t hit it sideways
I couldn’t hit it sideways just like, oh, just like, do it, do it, do it
Just like, just like that, just like

Now Rosy and Miss Rayon, they’re busy waitin’ for her booster
She’s just back from Carolina, she says she’s bound to meet a sailor
I said she hasn’t got the time, time, you’re busy suckin’ on my ding-dong
You’re busy suckin’ on my ding-dong, now, just like Sister Ray said
I’m searchin’ for my mainline, I said I couldn’t hit it sideways
Whip it on me Jim, whip it on me Jim, whip it on me Jim, whip it on me Jim
Said I couldn’t hit it sideways, oh, do it, yeah, just like, just like Sister Ray said

I said now Cecil’s got his new piece, he cocks and shoots it, bang, between three and four
He aims it at the sailor, he shoots him down dead on the floor
Oh, you shouldn’t do that, don’t you know you’ll hit the carpet, don’t you know you’ll mess the carpet?

Oh, she hasn’t got the time, time, busy suckin’ on his ding-dong
She’s busy suckin’ on his ding-dong, just like Sister Ray said
I’m searchin’ for my mainline, couldn’t hit it sideways
Couldn’t hit it sideways, and just like, and just like, and just like, like Sister Ray said, “Do it”

Doc and Sally inside, they’re busy cookin’ for the down five, oh
Who’re starin’ at Miss Rayon, busy lickin’ up her pig pen
I’m busy searchin’ for my mainline, I said I couldn’t hit it sideways
I said I couldn’t hit it sideways, now just like, now just like, I said oh, oh, just like am-ph-ph-ph-ph-ph-ph-ph-phetamines
