“the video has a specific meaning for me, but i’m hesitant to say what that is, as it might have a very specific meaning to you, and it’s completely open to anyone’s subjective interpretation. just because i made it doesn’t mean that my interpretation of it is the right one. i’d love to hear what you think of it and what your interpretation is.

oh, and it goes without saying, but it’s certainly not a big, commercial video… it’s an experimental video, inspired by some of my early heroes of experimental film, like jack smith (who also inspired fellini and andy warhol, so i guess at the very least i’m in good company in citing jack smith as an inspiration, even if i’m clearly not fellini or andy warhol…)”

LYRICS:

Cut off your nose
To spite your face
Slowly send your palms away

Draw fire crawl out
And seek the shade
Slowly send your palms away

A fine line will set you apart
Swallow my name, swallow it down
Sing me a song

Shoot the breeze
Shake my hand
across the fire, I caught your stare

Sing me a song
you today

A beacon will send you home

A fine line will set you apart
Swallow my name, swallow it down
Sing me a song.
Shoot the breeze
Shake my hand
across the fire, I caught your stare
Sing me a song
You today
Cut off your nose
to spite your face
Slowly send your palms away
I heard you say
I will not shame
You today

  1. Makes me want to create. To share a story that keeps playing in my mind. So I torture myself for hours listening to this song, replaying the story. Knowing I'm so close, yet impossibly far from being able to share it. Moby is the soundtrack to my endless tortures and difficult emotions, and makes it worthwhile when I am rewarded with progress.

  2. Moby truly inspires me because he uses his fame, if you will, to support amazing causes. Also because no matter what, he makes his music with soul and beauty

  3. are you afraid of drowning, juste imagine with me to stay there in total silence, you are truely awakened, not dead, you are hearing the universe stillness, you are it for a few seconds, no matter how short they may seem, they are eternal, oh perfect silence bring your face to mine, merge with me, let me be you, you are my beloved.

  4. Moby…wait for me. Geniva
Hold on people who are slilipping away, but you too do not slip away, and say finally what you couldn't say, all the time. Say it , know, I know that its you…you're !- you are the protector …GX

  5. I'm sorry, but this music video is terrifying, along with the album cover. Not that it's a bad thing, but why such creepy imagery for an album that's supposed to be peaceful and uplifting?

  6. My father sent me on piano lessons as he regretted not completing his. I got to love opera and classical music! Then I found Cat Stevens, The Doors and much later Moby, Goldfrapp and Lana Del Rey. As I live in London, I've only seen Moby once, Goldfrapp, I've never missed a concert, Lana Del Rey I've never experienced live. So, who has the most influence on my life?

  7. It is my opinion Moby is one of the most creative people living today. There are people who can be argued as being better than Moby in some things but not in creativity.
