Audi luxury unit of Volkswagen maker of top-of-the-line VW Rabbit parts is going to be the official sponsor of Art Chicago, which is America’s longest-running international modern and contemporary art fair. Audi will introduce its Audi RS 4 Art car created by the Brazilian-born Pop artist Romero Britto at the Art Chicago.
Audi’s involvement in the contemporary art and design has been a part of the company’s corporate culture. It has been sponsoring similar events such as the Design Miami/2006, the Armory Show 2007in New York, and the latest is the Art Chicago. Johan de Nysschen, executive vice president in charge of Audi of America, “Being involved in cutting-edge art events is a natural fit for Audi as a progressive premium brand. Art Chicago is another opportunity for us to demonstrate our commitment to design by exhibiting the RS 4 Art Car which is a piece of art on its own.”
The Audi RS 4 that will be showcased in the Art Chicago is claimed to have the ultimate in high-performance luxury, with performance and design that takes it to the next level with its 420-hp V8 engine and Quattro all-wheel drive.
Romero Britto is a modern day pop culture icon and has been a mainstay on the international art scene starting in 1989 when he was commissioned by Absolut Vodka along with Keith Haring and Andy Warhol to design a bottle label for the company. Britto is following the heels of Absolut and is consistently commissioned for corporate collections from around the world.
The Audi RS 4 is the most recent project of Britto and being a car enthusiast himself he always love the idea of creating art cars. Britto said, “For the Audi RS 4, I wanted to create something that would combine sophistication, dynamism and fun on one hand, but also include the aspect of a future generation on the other – as Audi is an innovative and leading brand. This is why I came to choose the portrait of a woman as it incorporates all these attributes.”
Aside from the exclusive Art Chicago Opening Party, the Audi RS4 Art Car will also be presented in a series of tours in some of the world’s most captivating cities and between New York and Mexico, Tom Brady, D.F. Super-bowl winning Quarterback will be the lucky one to drive the Audi RS 4 Art car. The Audi RS 4 Art Car Collectors’ Tour will end in South Beach, Miami where it will be made as the centerpiece of a Live Auction that will be benefit the Best Buddies International, a non-profit organization founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver.
Why the Best Buddies? Romero Britto is a longtime supporter and friend of Best Buddies. And just recently he has donated his image Best Buddies to the Best Buddies Artist Collection that was featured at Art Chicago.
