Sir Peter Blake on his new montage of the Chiswick Empire theatre

The artist Sir Peter Blake, who designed the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper album cover, has designed another crowd scene montage, this time for the Chiswick Timeline – a mural of maps of Chiswick through the centuries with images of art work by local artists – which will adorn the railway bridge on Turnham Green Terrace.

He produced a number of limited edition prints of the montage which sold out within 48 hours except for two held back by the project organisers Abundance London. One is to be auctioned. The other was the subject of a competition in which people had to name the 55 music hall artists in the picture.

Sir Peter was at Green Days, which marks the start of the Bedford Park Festival, on Sunday 11 June, where he selected the winner. There were 318 entries, of which 171 got over 35 correct, which were entered into the draw. The winner was Paul Beard, a music hall fan from Herefordshire.
