Elementary Art Project – Amate Painting

Amate is a hand crafted paper made from bark. It is a tradition that goes back centuries and in the mid 20th century, a new folk art tradition popped up as paintings on Amate paper started to be sold. These paintings often have bright bold colorful designs to contrast with the browns of the paper. I do this project with my 3rd grade students and they absolutely love the results. Of course I’m sure it could be translated to any grade level as pretty much all kids love these colorful paintings.

Painting like the Group of Seven – TIME LAPSE

In today’s video I am attempting to paint in the style of the Group of Seven. They are known for their interpretive pieces that almost have a cartoon like quality to them. Lawren Harris is the artist that I chose to follow the closest out of the group. His snow covered mountain landscapes are breath taking!

How to Draw a Hanukkah Menorah Real Easy

It’s getting close to Hanukkah. I know very little about the Jewish Faith but several people have asked me to draw a Hanukkah Menorah, the 9 stemmed candelabra used at the Hannukah festival of lights. The festival lasts for 8 days with one candle being lit every day. The 9th candle is usually set aside or above the others. It is the candle used for light and for lighting the others. Happy Hanukkah!
