Romero Britto (6 October 1963) is a Brazilian neo-pop artist, painter, serigrapher, and sculptor. He combines elements of cubism, pop art and graffiti painting in his work, using vibrant colors and bold patterns as a visual expression of hope and happiness. Born in Recife, in Northeast of Brazil, Britto lived an extremely modest childhood while growing up among a big family of eight brothers and sisters. However, his innate creativity allowed Britto to fill his life with images of a bigger and more beautiful world beyond his own. Self-taught at an early age, he painted what he saw and what he imagined on surfaces such as newspapers, cardboard or any scraps that he could find. With an inordinate passion to excel, he prospered academically. Still, Britto’s artistic nature eventually led him to seek experiences outside the classroom. In 1983, Britto went to Paris where he was introduced to the works of Matisse and Picasso. After exhibiting in a few galleries and private shows, Britto was encouraged to travel to the United States where Pop Art was flourishing.

Britto has lived in Miami, Florida since 1989. Shortly after Britto arrived in the United States, Michel Roux, founder of Absolute Vodka’s Absolute Art Ad Campaign, happened by Britto’s first studio in Coconut Grove, Florida. Roux quickly asked Britto to reinterpret the famous bottle, which would be published and seen by millions. Britto has completed other corporate works for the 2016 Presidential campaign of governor Jeb Bush as well as for Monsanto, Bain Capital, Movado, Philip Morris, Academi (formerly Blackwater), Disney, Enrico Coveri, Pepsi, the United Nations, BMW and Royal Caribbean Cruises. Britto has one main art gallery in Miami, on South Beach on Lincoln Road.

“Space Elephant” by Salvador Dalí is installed between Festive Hotel and the Galleria, Resorts World. For further enlightenment, head to Resorts World and admire this imposing sculpture modelled after one of the fantasy creatures in Dalí’s 1946 painting ‘The Temptation of Saint Anthony’. One of nine in the world — there’s another at London’s South Bank — the obelisk-carrying elephant symbolises power, desire and domination and is worth an estimated US$1.7 million (S$2.38m), so try not to get in this tusker’s way.

Fernando Botero’s cheeky, super-sized “Adam and Eve” statues is located near Crockfords Tower. These plus-size models never looked more attractive. Notice that Eve is holding an apple. His paintings and sculptures are united by their proportionally exaggerated, or “fat” figures, as he once referred to them.

The Thinker (Le Penseur) is a bronze and marble sculpture by Auguste Rodin 1840 – 1917. It depicts a man in sober meditation battling with a powerful internal struggle. It is often used to represent philosophy.

The long dragon fountains at the Merlion Walk is a sight not to be missed. It is a 120 meter long Gaudi-inspired mosaic that lies just behind the Merlion Tower. Brightly lit up with numerous tiny bulbs, the Merlion Walk way in Sentosa creates a right atmosphere for romantic getaways. To captivate you entirely the 50 different types of spice and herb plants in the Spice and Scented Gardens by both the sides of the walk exude their aromatic charm.
