Culture Chatter: Pop Art (Part One)

This is my first episode of what I hope to be a New Ongoing Series called Culture Chatter, where I discuss some sort of subject in Art or Media that I find interesting with my personal semi-intellectual internet-addled nerdspective.

This is part one of Two, covering Pop Artists from the late 50s into the early 70s

This first episode doesn’t use any background music, mainly because I don’t have anything Royalty-Free that seemed to fit the vibe of this particular narration.

Also I apologize for the inconsistent audio quality, I recorded this episode on an improvised system, and I’ve already ordered a nicer quality micorphone for future episodes.

This Video Contains a Ton of Copyrighted images of works by famous artists, all being used under Fair Use, as this is supposed to be some sort of journalistic effort. All copyrighted materials belong to their respective parties.

Gimp Tutorial: Pop Art

Please comment and rate videos – this will help other people find them by ranking them higher…it takes a second 🙂

Requested by Jadesdaddy1999.

How to produce Roy Lichenstein style Pop Art from your photographs.

This is based on several Photoshop tutorials, but is ‘translated’ for the Gimp, which doesn’t have the ‘new adjustment layers’ or ‘filters-sketch-halftone’ options that the Photoshop tutorials rely on.

Handy shortcut keys:
ctrl+m = Merge all visible layers
[ = brush decrease size
] = brush increase size
p = paintbrush tool
shift+e = eraser tool
o = eye-dropper/colour picker tool

Remember to save your project as an .xcf file as you go along, in case you lose your work.

Andy Warhol – American artist – Pop Art Painter Photogerapher

————————————————
Andy Warhol (August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became a renowned and sometimes controversial artist. The Andy Warhol Museum in his native city, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, holds an extensive permanent collection of art and archives. It is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to a single artist.
———————————————————————
Contemporary art galleries are often established together in urban centers such as the Chelsea district of New York, widely considered to be the center of the American contemporary art world. Most large urban areas have several art galleries, and most towns will be home to at least one. However, they may also be found in small communities, and remote areas where artists congregate, e.g. the Taos art colony in New Mexico and St Ives, Cornwall; Hill End, Braidwood and Byron Bay in New South Wales Contemporary art galleries are usually free and open to the public, however some are semi-private, more exclusive, and by appointment only.
